“FAMOUS OCTOPUS” METAL WORK

“FAMOUS OCTOPUS” METAL WORK

Constructed of wood, copper, aluminum, and glass. I have always loved metal, especially mixed metals; patinas and textures. Why an Octopus you ask? Well I have learned that the Octopus is an amazing creature. They have 9 brains, 3 hearts, and 8 legs, if that wouldn’t make you famous? What would!?

This work I constructed from reclaimed copper and aluminum, mounted on a wooden 12”x12” base, and a single glass eye. Each piece was hand cut, formed, heated, hammered and stitched, or nailed, to the base. Bending and shaping flat metal, forming it in a way that I feel fits the artwork best! Its a process. Stepping back, studying images, or even documentaries about Octopus. I couldn’t help to not feel drawn to this subject with so many vibrant colors, motion, and textures to express.

This work went on to an exhibit at the New Britain Art League 2022 through the Connecticut Women Artists Inc. (CWA) who I am proud to be part of. It has since been sold to a person who loves it as much as I do!
